Caliche’s Frozen Custard – Caliche’s serves classic frozen custard, sundaes, malts, hot dogs, nachos, and more. Get a free doggie ice cream cone when ordering with your pet! High Desert Brewing Company – High Desert specializes in locally-brewed beer, but also offers up a full menu that includes burgers, sandwiches, nachos, quesadillas and more.  Live music on Thursday and Saturday.  Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome on the patio.  1201 W. International Delights Café – International Delights serves authentic Greek, European, Mediterranean, North African, and Middle Eastern food. La Vina Winery – La Vina is New Mexico’s oldest winery, providing tastings of New Mexico wines and daily tours. Bring a picnic to eat along with a glass of wine on the patio. Milagro Coffee and Espresso – Milagro Coffee is a locally owned and operated coffee shop in the university area offering pastries, paninis, breakfast burriots, italian sodas, hot chocolate, teas, and coffees of assorted varieties. Spirit Winds Coffee Bar – Serving sandwiches, soups, and salads. Full coffee bar and giftshop. Sandwiches, soups, salads, full coffee bar and the area’s most eclectic, hip giftshop. Leashed dogs are allowed at outdoor tables and around the property. 2260 Locust. 575-521-0222.

Spotted Dog Brewery – This local brewery offers a rotating menu of beers.  An occasional catering menu is available, or you can bring your own food or have it delivered.  Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome in the patio.  2920 Avenida de Mesilla, Mesilla, NM.  Visit website

St. Clair Winery & Bistro – Open for wine tasting 7 days a week. Come taste one of many available New Mexico wines or have lunch or dinner on the patio. Dogs on leashes are allowed at outdoor patio tables and on the property. “Yappy Hour,” a happy hour for well behaved dogs and their owners is offered the third Wednesday of every month, March through November including special cocktails and door prizes. 1720 Avenida de Mesilla. 866-336-7360.

Las Cruces Dog Park – This newly opened city park, located on East Hadley Ave. behind the Meerscheidt Recreation Center offers off-leash play areas, shaded areas, waste stations, benches, and water fountains. Separate areas available for large and small dogs. Dogs must be healthy, spayed or neutered, sociable, current on all vaccinations and licensed with tags on collar, and must be under their owner’s control at all times. Dogs must be leashed when not in designated off-lead areas. The park is open daily from dawn until dusk. N Hermosa Street (between E Hadley and Griggs Avenues). 575-541-2200.

Young Park – A large, grassy park with extensive walking paths and doggy stations with cleanup bags. Pets welcome. 1905 East Nevada.

Desert Trails Park – This paved walking trail, which varies from .2 mile loops to 1.5 mile loops, is located on Mission between Roadrunner and Golf Club. It includes water fountains, benches, and trash cans. Pet-friendly on leash, parking available on street.

Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument – No pets allowed at Dripping Springs Natural Area/La Cueva.  Pets are allowed at all other areas of the Monument, and must be kept under control and on a leash at all times within developed recreation areas.  For more information, contact the Bureau of Land Management Las Cruces District Office, 1800 Marquess St, 575-525-4300.  Visit website  

La Llorona Trail – This paved multi-used trail spans three miles alongside the Rio Grande. Restrooms, benches, picnic tables, a play structure, and signage explaining the history, culture, and wildlife of the rio grand are available along the trail. The trail is pet-friendly for leashed dogs. Located between Picacho and Motel Blvd.

Triviz Trail – This 4.6 mile walking path runs from Kohl’s to the New Mexico State University Area. Pavement surface with water fountains, benches, and trash cans available. Dog friendly, parking available.
