Ditch the tie this Father’s Day and give Dad what he really wants – a day planned just for him!
We’ve rounded up our favorite Las Cruces picks that any dad will love.
The Adventure Seeker
For the lover of the great outdoors, you couldn’t pick a better place than Las Cruces. Try sand sledding, backcountry camping, hiking, biking, horse riding and more at White Sands National Monument, or check out some of the area’s best (and leg-burningest) hikes through the Organ Mountains – like Bar Canyon Loop or Baylor Pass. Mesilla Valley offers tons of sports for road and trail cycling, and the Corralitos Ranch is one of the best spots for horseback riding and exploring.
The History Buff
History lessons come in many forms in Las Cruces! Explore the Organ Mountains for sites like Billy the Kid’s Outlaw Rock, Geronimo’s Cave, historical WWII aerial targets and over 5,000 archeological sites. Hitch a ride on a stagecoach through Historic Mesilla, or take a spook-tacular day trip to one of the many ghost towns in the area. For a local look at agriculture, spend a day at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.
The Golf Enthusiast
What’s better to an aspiring Arthur Palmer than a day out on the green? Hit the back nine with dad this Father’s Day (or plan an outing for him and his buddies) at any one of the beautiful golf courses Las Cruces has to offer. Try Sonoma Ranch for varying levels of skill, NMSU for breathtaking views of the Organ Mountains and Mesilla Valley or Red Hawk, Las Cruces’ newest course.
The Booze Cruiser
Have a taste for tannins or hoping for hops? Wine & Ale Trails are right up Dad’s alley. Stop for a sip of vino along the vineyards in the oldest wine-producing region in the country (try Sombra Antigua, Rio Grande, Luna Rossa and more) or kick back with a cold beer at a great selection of restaurants and breweries (like Bosque Brewing Company Taproom, Main Street Bistro & Ale House, Spotted Dog Brewery and more) featuring a variety of local and New Mexico craft beers. And don’t miss two great festivals this month: the Mesilla Valley Wine Trail Festival (June 17-18) and Red, White & Brew (June 30 – July 2)!
The Aspiring Chef
Can’t get Dad out of the kitchen? Prep his pantry with the best ingredients from southern New Mexico. Hit up the Farmers & Crafts Market on Saturday and Wednesday mornings to fill up on local produce. Or take Dad on the Green Chile Trail for history, growing and cooking tips, tasting opportunities and more on our infamous “Walk of Flame.”
Whatever Dad loves, Las Cruces can deliver.
Plan your Father’s Day today for an experience your favorite guy will never forget.
