In this exhibit, you will learn about women’s clothing from the pioneer days of the 1870s to the Depression Era of the 1930s. The exhibit focuses on clothing worn for “everyday” as well as special events like weddings, funerals, and baptism. Under garments are included, as well as accessories such as hats and gloves. Lots of dresses and lots of historic photographs.

The Prado Traveling Exhibit is an impressive educational outdoor exhibit displaying 92 pieces of photographically reproduced masterpieces, selected and curated by the Prado from Spanish Royal family’s collection of art, at a 1:1 scale. These amazing works of art will be on display on the Plaza de Las Cruces.  The exhibit is free and open to the public 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  Museo Nacional del Prado – The Prado Museum – is Spain’s main national art museum.  It’s one of the world’s most renowned fine art museums, and boasts one of the finest collections o European art, all housed in a 18th-century Neo-Classical building in Madrid.  With numerous pieces from a long list of artists, the museum offers Madrid’s residents and tourists a deep wealth of European history, cultural reflection and contemporary social commentary. The close relations ships between the Spanish heritage in their U.S., the Prado Museum and the American Friends of Prado Museum offer a strong collaboration to work together towards the collective aim to share knowledge of the Prado Museum and it’s rich collection of European and Spanish painting in a didactic and attractive manner outside Spain.

Born and raised in Las Cruces, Gerald Guss has always loved being surrounded by all the breathtaking sights that exist here in the Land of Enchantment. Guss has always had a fascination with photography and thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures with his point and shoot cameras in the past. It wasn’t until the summer of 2016 that he took the big step of purchasing his first “real” camera in preparation for upcoming travel. The following summer Guss began to take his Nikon with him on hiking trips around the Las Cruces area. Friends and family inspired him to submit pictures into the Southern New Mexico State Fair. Doing so resulted in multiple ribbons for his work and led him to join the Dona Ana Photography Club, where he quickly won more ribbons for his work. Gerald Guss’s photography prints can be found at three Memorial Medical Center clinics around Las Cruces. No food or drinks in the gallery.

Bob, a photographer, is originally from the New York City area.  He is a self-taught photographer whose work is influenced by Ansel Adams, Joe McNally and several photojournalists.  He moved to Las Cruces in 2009 after a 40-year career as an editor for the New York Times.

Frank a native son of a New Mexico family.  Frank is a National  Landscape Painting Competition finalist.  His paintings, pastels, and etchings are in private collections worldwide.  Known for dramatic use of color and texture, his work was once dedicated to the ever-changing landscape and the mystery of ancient American symbols and imagery.  Now he dedicates his skills to the majesty, grace and hope intrinsic to Nature’s praise forms.  His pastels and paintings are a reflection of God’s love and blessing to all who believe in the promise of salvation.

But everyone in the theater, including a vacuuming janitor and an audience member who really has to pee, keeps interrupting to share their own, less-than-chilling versions of the stories. This Hallow’s Eve, we meet a town that can’t tell the difference between a witch and a thunderstorm, a jack-o-lantern who is constantly peer-pressuring the devil, and a Frankenstein monster at the center of a high school romantic rivalry. A Halloween comedy that will leave you screaming with laughter! Concessions served including snacks and refreshments.

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will hold its annual Pumpkin Splash Patch where children ages 4 to 12 will have the opportunity to pick out a pumpkin from the “water pumpkin patch” and decorate it for Halloween.

The family event takes place from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center, 1401 E. Hadley Ave.

Children must be accompanied by an adult during the event and parents of non-swimmers must accompany their children in the water. There will also be Halloween-themed activities and music. Admission is $2 per child – parents get in free.

Pete’s Meat is our second annual beefsteak dinner which historically is a dinner with all-you-can-eat beef steak with fries, where no napkins, no plates, and no utensils are allowed. This type of dinner dates back to the 1920s in New York, where politicians would put on these dinners as fundraisers.

At our dinner, you will experience the same traditions that can be found in the original dinners.

All Tuesdays and Saturdays through November 28: The Las Cruces Museums will be providing free weekly 30-45 minute tours on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am, and on Saturday afternoons at 2:00pm. The tours are free of charge and will meet at the exhibit on Plaza Place.

The theme of the tours will change but may include: Religion, Works of the Spanish Masters, Portraiture, Landscapes/Still Life, The Human Form, Mythology, and Royalty. Additional themes may be added later. Those interested in becoming docents with the Museums are encouraged to contact the Las Cruces Museums at (575) 541-2137 for more information.

Dragonfly downtown will be providing special Spanish-themed tapas starting Sept 7th, and then each Tuesdays and Saturdays to coincide with the public tours through November 28th.

“Swing on the Plaza! Open to all ages! Enjoy music from good old big band to new age Electro Swing! Don’t know how to swing dance? No worries! There will be a beginners lesson at the start of every event! The one hour lesson will teach you all the basics of Jitterbug and have you swinging in no time at all!
