Day of the Dead to be celebrated with marathon series
LAS CRUCES, NM — In celebration of the Day of the Dead this year Mainly Marathons, LLC will be hosting a Day of the Dead Marathon Series on October 29- November 1, 2012 In Las Cruces. The marathon will take place at the Rio Grande Trail starting at La Llorona Park.
All four days of the event will include one marathon and one half-marathon, both beginning at 7 am. Runners and walkers alike are invited to do one, all, or any combination of races.
The scenic trail runs alongside the Rio Grande and is both paved and flat. It runs three miles and back repeated and will be USATF sanctioned.
The Marathon series is expected to bring in some big names in quantity marathon running, including runners who have run 300 marathons or more. An ongoing national competition for the first American to run 1000 marathons is likely to bring challengers to the event.
Nationally known artist Heather Calderon’s artwork including prints and t-shirts will be given to race participants, along with a custom medal and other ‘goodies’. There is no time limit, walkers are welcome, and prizes will be given to those who finish last.
Entry forms can be submitted online at www.mainlymarathons.com by October 24 or can be printed and mailed by October 20. Registration will also be allowed the morning of the event. Prices for full and half marathons are available on the website as well. Discounts are available for Maniacs, 50 Staters, 50 Staters+DC, and Half-Fanatics.
