2012 New Mexico- West Texas Amateur Championship
|LAS CRUCES- The 36th Annual New Mexico-West Texas Amateur Championship will be held at the new and highly acclaimed Red Hawk Golf Club in Las Cruces, NM on July 13th – 15th 2012.
This prestigious tournament brings together the top amateur players within New Mexico and West Texas as they try to claim the top position in the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association (SCAGA). This Championship is rich in tradition and history with past winners having earned over $30 million on the professional circuit. Some of the most notable past champions include Rich Beem, Tommy Armour III, Bart Bryant, and D.J. Brigman.
This year’s champion will not only claim SCAGA’s most storied and respected event, but will also receive invitations to play in national events like the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship, the Sunnehanna Amateur Championship, the Scratch Players Championship and the Southwestern Amateur Championship.
Last year’s Champion Greg Condon of Monte Vista, CO, will be back to defend his title. Greg had a very impressive -10 weekend at the UNM Championship Golf Course to capture the 2011 title by two shots over Sam Saunders and 2010 champion Danny Medina.
Red Hawk Golf Club, designed by legendary golf course architect Ken Dye, should prove to be a great test of golf, and a great host facility of the 2012 New Mexico-West Texas Amateur Championship.
Tee times will start at 7:00 am on Friday and Saturday of the Championship, after which the field of approximately 70 players will be cut to the low 2/3. The final round on Sunday will begin at 7:00 am as well. Members of the media will have access to all competitors and tournament officials. Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to come out to Red Hawk Golf Club to witness some of the best players in the region.
